In the work of Steven Heino there's an underlying investigation of the human condition. His use of materials and the physical surface eludes to the history of that condition. There is an assemblage approach to those surfaces where materials are added and removed. This physicality develops a history to the two dimensional and sculptural work. The effigy series are life size in scale and hung low on the wall allowing the viewer to confront the figures - to intimately investigate the complex structure. They have a modernist feel about them, reminding one of something constructivist or cubist, though the concerns differ.
